Lavender King Bee

From the Come to Me Collection

Painting Size: 11 x 14

Gouache on Arches Hot Press 140lb Watercolor Paper

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” says Matthew 11:28-29.

This collection seeks to remind us of Jesus’s invitation to us; come to me. Jesus welcomes us to live with Him rather than to impossibly seek our own way. There’s nothing we have to bring or prepare.

The Message tells us in these verses to “learn the unforced rhythms of grace.” By living with Jesus, grace unfolds. We do not and cannot learn grace alone.

Following the tradition of the early church where symbols were widely used to teach the gospel due to the high rate of illiteracy, these paintings are filled with symbols that remind us of Jesus’s gentle, welcoming heart. The symbols are woven throughout the paintings to physically call us into the paintings, mimicking Jesus’s spiritual call to us.
